2016 Year In Review
This was a great year for the Coastal Farm & Ranch Challenge of Champions Tour. We added three new events Oakville, Washington; Myrtle Point, OR; and Canby, OR. This brought our event total to 17 tour stops throughout Oregon, Washington and Idaho.
The Tour made its first stop as always starting in the town where it all began seven years ago, Roseburg, OR. What an exciting sold-out event where we had to turn away almost 200 fans that. Paul Coppini started the year with a bang winning the first Tour stop of the year! This feat would start a trend never seen on the Tour, a bullrider winning three events in a row! Coppini would go on to win the second sold out fan favorite event, Prineville, OR. We featured Matt Borden and Luke Kaufman down in the dirt following the event. Coppini would rise to the top of a field of 40 bullriders, taking the championship once more for the second time. Wow that was exciting!!
Let’s step back here and check out the other dance partner in this dance we call Bullriding and its the bull. Gorham bucking bulls busted out this new young bull in Roseburg OR nobody knew anything about…they call him Omaha! Let’s just say in Roseburg, OR that night a start was born in the form of a bucking bull that left you with a look of amazement and awe!
In March, we returned for the first time back to a town we love, Pasco, WA. What a great crowd and night of bullriding. They rode 10 bulls, Coppini once more took top honors again that night, and completing the Triple Crown, the turkey, the three-in-a-row wins. Coppini was the first bullrider in CCT history to win three tour stops in a row.
As we came into our busy season things really heated up with Coppini #1 in the standings and way ahead of the competition so early in the year we figured he would have the championship locked up at the end of our three events run in May. By the 2nd week in May, in the beautiful windy town of Hermiston who would have thought that it could be 75 degrees Friday afternoon to pouring down rain all the way until 10 minutes before the performance starts. Ouch…but hey, the show must go on. A youngster fresh on Tour stepped up and took his first victory of his many to come on the Tour, this young man is Levi Gray. Our Hermiston event was also where started adding in the Freestyle Bullfighting Tour. We challenged these guys with some cantankerous, man-haters from 12X/Costa Fighting Bulls. Superstar Bullfighter Erik Schwindt took home top dog in that event scoring an 86! See the videos of some these men vs speeding freight trains of destruction on our videos page.
As we said, we wasted no time this year. May was busy but June and August were right along with it in 2016. We left the mud pit of Hermiston and headed for an indoor building in Albany Oregon, the home of our Title Sponsor Coastal Farm & Ranch, we are so fortunate to put on an event for this great family based company in their home town. Remember a little bull we talked about in the early stages of the Tour Omaha well he has been placing at each event slowly claiming the top honors of the #1 bull so far on the 2016 Tour. On the bullriding adventure a young man by the name of Chase Dougherty has proven to be a force to reckon with at the CCT events. Chase would go on to win the next two events Albany and Sandpoint ID, to include a fantastic win on the Bounty Bull. That Bounty Bull win earned him a beautiful new Grill courtesy of Coastal Farm & Ranch!
